Captivating Backwaters of Kerala

Kerala, also known as the God's own country, is amongst the Top ten of the "Paradises of the world" and also spots a place in the "Top fifty places of lifetime" as per "National Geographic Travelers Magazine". Kerala is known for serene villages, beaches covered with Palm trees and of immaculate backwaters. The Kerala backwaters mesmerize anyone with their calmness and beauty. Every corner seems like being crafted by God's own hands. And what makes Kerala's visitors return again-n-again is the enthralling quietude of this place which leaves every tourist spell bound.

Kerala backwaters have been divided into various regions and every region has its own significance. The Kollam region, known as the start of the backwater waterways, has got the Alappuzha region next to it but has a distance of 8 hrs by boat in between. Alappuzha is also famous for the crossing of rivers which reminds the tourists of Venice. The next region, covered with the green paddy fields, is known as the kuttanad region. Visitors can always have a glimpse into the rural Kerala in this region and is also known as the best cruise region of Kerala backwaters. Munroe Island is also a part of the Kerala backwaters. The Munroe Island is a cluster of eight tiny islands which are home to various migratory birds from different countries. These are also home to Coir making industry. Every hand here can be found busy doing awesome coir work. Kasargod region is also known for the coir industry and has got mesmerizing landscapes with sea around. Four rivers can be seen coming together near Kasargod. Thiruvallam region is a part of the state capital Thiruvanattapuram and has got beauties like waterfront parks, floating bridge and some facilities for water sports.

There are a lot of things one can do while enjoying Kerala Backwaters. Most desired is the House Boats these days. A modern house boat has got all the facilities from the Power being generated from the solar energy to delicacies with Kerala's flavor. Any modern house boat will be approx 70 ft in length and approx 15 ft in width and will have from luxurious rest rooms to calm balconies to enjoy the surround while on tour. The house boats can be hired as per the size of the group. Rooms are mostly air conditioned and the dinning room is mostly open from three sides to enjoy the food and the ambience together. Imagine a full body massage in the balcony of the house boat while listening to soothing music.

Visitors can also enjoy boat race in the month of August which is primarily the Harvest season and is the time for the biggest festival of the year called Onam. These racing boats look alike a snake and are as lengthy as 30 meters and can also accommodate about hundred team members which drive the boat to the finishing point to win the title.

The other favorite things of the visitors are cycling, mountaineering and trekking, fishing and adventure sports etc. There is a long list of things to be enjoyed by the visitors which they may not be able to complete in even a 7 day tour. So get ready to enthrall yourself as this is the right time to plan for a complete backwater tour to Kerala, India.
